Happy Mother’s Day from E. 48th Street Market!

While I know that mothers certainly love and appreciate the kind gestures of flowers and presents, I’m also certain they love those special opportunities to simply relax and enjoy their families.

What are some ideas you ask? Well, here at the Market we have some suggestions for making Mother’s Day extra special. As a mom that certainly loves to cook, I have to confess that on occasion I love to be pampered by simply not being allowed into my own kitchen! Consider keeping your special mom out of the kitchen and allowing us to do all the cooking for you.

The Market will be cooking up pans of lasagna, baked ziti, eggplant casserole, baking Italian bread and more! Choose a nice bottle of wine (or two!) to complement your dinner. And complete your meal on an even sweeter note with our delicious cheese cakes, cannolis, assorted cookies and many other delectable favorites! And please, do not forget to do the dishes and leave the kitchen nice and clean! Another great idea is purchasing an E. 48th Street Gift Card and let mom pick her day of relaxation!

Don’t delay! Let the Market help make Mother’s Day in your home extra special. Simply call us or stop in and visit us to place your order!

Needless to say, in Italy the term “mamma” is an institution like in no other country. So, naturally Sunday, May 10th the Festa della Donna will be celebrated in style with flowers, candy and lavish meals. Also in Italy, this holiday is strongly associated with revering the Virgin Mary.

We here at the Market wish Mothers, one and all a very Happy Mother’s Day.

Ciao!

Surprise Mamma with a Homemade Dessert

If you want to impress Mamma with a special homemade dessert here is something delicious, elegant and easy.

RASPBERRY PANNA COTTA

• 2 cups whipping cream
• ½ cup Sugar
• 2 teaspoons lemon zest
• ½ vanilla bean, split lengthwise, seeds scooped out or
• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
• 1 envelope plain gelatin
• ½ cup cold water
• 4 tablespoons raspberry jam

In a medium saucepan, combine whipping cream, sugar, zest and vanilla bean seeds or extract. Cook on medium heat to just when it begins to boil. Watch carefully to make sure it doesn’t scorch. Meanwhile, sprinkle the gelatin into the water and let sit for 3-5 minutes. Strain the cream mixture through a fine meshed sieve and then pour into a bowl. Stir in the gelatin mixture. Pour into four ramekins or small custard cups and refrigerate for 4 or 5 hours.
To serve, fill a small bowl with boiling water. Using a knife, loosen the sides of the ramekins and set in the boiling water for a few seconds. Then invert on a dish to unmold. Heat the jam in the microwave for a few seconds until it looks
pourable and drizzle some over each panna cotta. Be sure to serve it to mom first, with a kiss!
Optionally you can also top with fresh raspberries and additional whipped cream.
We here at the Market wish Mothers, one and all a very Happy Mother’s Day.
