Not too long ago, I wrote about our wonderful vacation to Italy and the opportunity to visit so many notable wineries. One of the places we visited was RENATO RATTI located in the beautiful Piedmont region. We had a very enjoyable morning there. Just to stand outside the doorway of the winery and look out over the rolling hills filled with grape wines was in itself intoxicating. This is Barolo country and we felt privileged that Pietro Ratti was able to spend some time with us as we toured the winery and tasted some unforgettable wines.

Pietro Ratti and Charlie

Here you see Charlie in a discussion with Pietro Ratti about the wine process. We also had the distinct opportunity to taste and evaluate the juice shortly after the crush, once again after the initial fermentation, then just before barrel aging process and finally the finished product of a previous year.

The RENATO RATTI winery is located in an area of Italy called La Morra. The winery was the first to vilify a Barolo from a single-vineyard (Barola Marcenasco) as well as develop a map of the historical crush of Barolo (Carta del Barol0, 1976). Renato Ratti is considered the great innovator of Barolo wines. His wines are produced with the respect of tradition and represent perfectly the quality of the uniqueness of the territory.

At the E.48th Street Market we are pleased to offer Renato Ratti selections:

• Barolo – Marcenasco, Nebbiolo D’Alba,
• Barbara D’Alba, Dolcetto D’Alba
