usoSeveral years ago we placed a donation jar on our check-out counter to support the USO – Hartsfield Airport and to primarily purchase telephone cards for our Troops traveling through Atlanta. Through your generous donations, along with matching funds from Rotary we have donated over $30,000 to purchase 4000 of these cards.

Along with the cash donations, the Rotary Club of Dunwoody volunteers personally serve our service personnel 2 days each year. We serve home baked cookies, energy bars, bottled water, fresh fruit and hot dogs with all the trimmings. Donated by the Market, you our great customers and a few vendors, such as Boarshead North Side Deli Provisions, US Produce, Dade Paper Products, General Mills Energy Bars, Cabot Cheese and our Rotary bakers.

Other donations from Rotarians and our customers include cookies, styrofoam cups, plates, samples size tooth paste and floss, for a total contribution of approximately $35,000.

In appreciation for our volunteering and donations the Department of the Army has honored the Rotary Club of Dunwoody with a plaque which bears the following inscription:

“For exceptionally meritorious service in support of the U.S. Central Command Rest and Recuperation and Leave Program and support to over one million participants. Your diligent efforts contributed tremendously to the safe and efficient operation of the Rest and Recuperation Leave Program, affording a warm welcome to each and every participant. Your provision of a safe place to rest, a friendly smile, and a helping hand elevated the Rest and Recuperation experience for all. You have been and remain an integral and valuable part of the Department of Defense and the Army Team for ensuring the well-being of all our participants. Thank you for your support and the vital service you provide.”

Signed, Barrye L. Price,
Brigadier General, U.S. Army
Director, Human Resources Policy.

This plaque was presented to me for my commitment at a recent Rotary Club of Dunwoody Meeting and I am pleased to accept it on behalf of all the friends and customers of the E. 48th Street Market and the many Rotary volunteers who gladly give so generously of their time and energy. We are looking for an appropriate place to display it at the Market for you to view.

Pictured in this picture with me receiving the plaque are:
Susan Schwall, Past President of Rotary Club of Dunwoody
SGM ® Scarlett Williams, USA
Mary Lou Austin, President/CEO, USO of Georgia

We thank you for your continued donations. This is a perfect example of how a business and its customers and a service organization, namely Rotary Club of Dunwoody, work as a team to serve our community.

Ciao,

Charlie
