Please take note that the E. 48th Street Market will be CLOSED on Memorial Day!

Memorial Day, originally called Decoration Day, is a day of remembrance for those who have died in our nation’s service. Originally observed on May 30th, it is now observed on the final Monday in the month of May. This year that day is May 28th.

Since the late 1950’s on the Thursday before Memorial Day, 1200 soldiers of the 3rd US Infantry place small American Flags at each of the more than 260,000 gravestones at Arlington National Cemetery. Then they patrol 24 hours a day over the long weekend to make sure that each flag stays in place. For more than 200 years the American Flag has been a symbol of our nation’s strength and unity and a source of pride and inspiration.

To honor our fallen heroes display a flag proudly at your place of residence. If you do not have a flag please stop in at the E. 48thStreet Market an we will gladly give you one.

And, as always, Pray for Our Troops who are serving now so that we may be free to observe this Memorial Day.

God Bless Our Troops and God Bless America
